Tom Lyons

A proud local, Tom was raised on the Southeastern banks of Lake Taupo and moved back to Taupo in 2018, after spending a year of brokering and training in Hawkes Bay. The move home was not straightforward as he did not have access to data so crucial to transacting in the commercial and industrial real estate market. His focus on relationships coupled with the determination to build a presence saw him transact 21 deals totalling over $500,000 first-year annual rentals, and over $13.7 million in sales in year one. Over the three years Tom has been in Taupo, the total number of transactions has surpassed the 65 mark, with over $1.8m in first-year annual rentals, and $34 million in total sales. 

 

Tom has become the ‘go-to broker’ for commercial and industrial property investors and developers. He has unrivalled knowledge of square meter rates, yields, financial documentation, the town’s growth and what’s happening ‘in the background’ in the local market.

 

In January 2020 Tom started Lyons Asset Brokerage which was to be launched in April 2020. The Covid lockdown put these plans on hold, however, it gave him an extra month to perfect his back-end systems to ensure less time in front of a computer and more time ‘in the field’. He utilises bespoke software and digital marketing techniques to put people at the forefront of his business with the view that relationships should outlast a transaction.

 

Tom has a double degree majoring in accounting and IT infrastructure. Before setting his sights on the property industry he managed current assets and audited information systems for a giant in the e-commerce and payment industry, travelled the world living in Italy, Canada, and the USA, working as a deckhand on superyachts, a farmhand and a white water rafting guide. After the travel bug had been put to rest he built his first business in Auckland specialising in detailing, and valeting vehicles in the high-end market and subsequently won a substantial entrepreneurial grant.
